200 year old whaler ship model

  • Before Restoration

    Caked with dust and with broken masts and yards. Rudder, anchor and small parts were missing.

  • Cleaning the ship

    The first step in most restoration projects is cleaning, care has to be taken not to damage fragile parts or rigging. This procedure allows MacLock to view the task at hand more thoroughly. At this stage unexpected repairs are may be discovered and more consultation with the client will occur.

  • Detail of bow

  • Hull Keelson and stem

    A delamination of the keel board and stem was glued and clamped.

  • During Rigging

    Some missing yards and booms were fabricated to complete rigging.

  • Placing new spreader

    To stiffen wire rigging some missing spreaders were constructed and inserted.

  • Detail of Stern Restoration

    After intensive rigging restoration, davits were straightened and boats removed.

  • Ships Boats

    Boats had oars re-bundled and new finish applied. Double and single block purchases were constructed for davits.

  • Rudder

    Rudder on the right came with model but was inaccurate. A new rudder was constructed and a matched finish applied.

  • Rudder Installed.

    The rudder was attached with pins, eye screw at top was for chains to stern.

  • Whaler complete

    Forward and midships boats were reconditioned and installed. Anchors built and positioned. Rigging complete.
